If You Grill It, They Will Come- Why Do We Celebrate Patriotic Holidays With Grilling?

Grilling on the 4th of July

Why does the mention of Memorial Day and Independence Day cause everyone in the neighborhood to bring out the grill? What is it about these patriotic holidays that instills a need in Americans for burgers, hot dogs, and all the fixings?

According to Slate.Com, barbecues first began in America by colonists in Virginia who adapted this tradition from the West Indies. This practice became such a hit in the early 1800s that public barbecues were held to draw crowds during political rallies that marked Independence Day. As the city crowd drifted to the suburbs during the 1900s, grilling became less of a public event and more of a backyard celebration.

Grills have come a long way since then and if you are in the market for a new one, we are excited for you to see our entire selection, but particularly the American Muscle Grills that we carry.

From our family to yours, have a safe and happy Independence Day! Give our team a call if we can assist you.
